This book was SO close to perfect! It’s a middle-grade novel where eleven-year-old October, who is used to living in the woods with her dad, is suddenly thrust into life in London with her mum. This book contains an owl called Stig, foraging, mud larking, a love of books, and hunting for treasure of all kinds. So… it’s practically perfect. As a mother, this particularly pulled on my heartstrings as October’s mum wrestles with how to care for her “wild” daughter. Identity, friendship and discovering what you love — fantastic themes and so beautifully written.
An Awkward Thing
So, this is awkward, but I do need to pay my bills. Writing is my day job. I want to keep my posts free so that as many people as possible can benefit from them, especially all my writing advice. But, free posts won’t keep my kids in school shoes. So, if you’ve found this post enjoyable or helpful, would you consider buying me a coffee, or taking a look at my editing and critique services? Thanks!
